Our goal at the Charles River Rowing Camp is to improve rowing technique and give athletes the skills to be successful in their own programs. The best way to facilitate this is to put athletes in settings where they can learn and improve at a pace tailored towards their experience level. During your registration process, we appreciate your assessment of your rowing ability, based on the descriptions below. Please note that once at camp our coaches will also assess the level of all the athletes and then group them together with other athletes whose rowing skills and experience most closely match their own.
(0 - 3 months of rowing experience - no coxswains)
We welcome those with no previous rowing experience!
Appropriate for novices or rowers with one season of experience. This level introduces fundamentals of rowing technique for those with little or no experience. Drills and careful instruction will ensure exciting and rapid progress.
Rowing will begin in the indoor still-water tank and will move quickly onto the water in 8+s.
(Rowers and coxswains with 3 months - 1 year of experience)
Emphasis will be placed on continuing to develop good rowing fundamentals. Rowers will learn more effective technique through the use of tanks and rowing machines.
Drills and individual coaching in 8+s will achieve improved technique and ability.
(Rowers and coxswains with 1-2 years of experience)
Rowers in this group already have a solid rowing foundation, and will continue to advance their skill level through new drills. Tanks and rowing machines will be used to improve technique knowledge. Athletes will use drills and individual coaching on the water to work on applying their skills in more competitive situations.
(Rowers and coxswains with more than 2 years of experience)
In this advanced group, the focus will be on refining technique and strategy for optimal effectiveness in racing situations.
